The Latest and Greatest...

Many thanks to the Witches Brewfest organizers and the TCB well-wishers who came to the Halloween show... great party, great show, good times. Up next, the final push to get our CD completed by Christmas, followed by as many live appearances as possible. As always, watch this space for details.

It's been awhile since the last news update, folks... sorry about that. We've been using the MySpace page to do most of our announcements. TCB is still alive and well and working on our CD. The August show at Lamps was a lot of fun, and speaking of shows, we have a Halloween gig coming up.

TCB performed at the Durty Nellie's open mic showcase last night, and served up a cross-section of material for the upcoming sexxplosion scheduled to happen at Lamplighters on Saturday, August 25th.

Just when you thought that there was no TCB news to report, BAM! Last night we performed at the Durty Nellie's open mic, after several failed attempts under the previous administration. Happy to report that the OM is back in good hands and it's organized far better than last summer, when TCB had to retreat from the rampant douchebaggery on display. But the new host knows what he's doing and the band was able to break the curse.
07/23/07 open mic setlist:
Sway (Rolling Stones)
Powderfinger (Neil Young)
My Morning Song (Black Crowes)
We were invited to come back for next month's local band showcase on Monday, August 20th. This is a few days before our big show at Lamplighter's (August 25th) so we should be well prepared to present a delightful sampler.

Happy birthday, TCB news page! On the off chance that anyone actually reads this thing, rest assured that your Cowbirds have been busy... we've recorded 10 songs and counting for the new CD. Mark your calendars for our August 25th show at Lamplighters, the night of the Palatine Streetfest. Look for audio previews soon, on this very site.

Work on the new CD has started, with TCB recording the basics of five orginal tunes. A second round of songs is planned for next month, and we hope to have the entire project wrapped up by May 1 (editor's note: ha). Watch this here website for sneaky peeks and whatnot.

Many thanks to all who joined us for the big holiday show. We had a blast, and hope you did too. Extra-special thanks to Scottish McMillan for doing an amazing job running the complicated TCB sound. Shout outs to Brian and Jerry for spending their birthdays with us, too. We hope everyone has a great holiday, and we'll see you in 2007.
Photo and audio memoribilia, when available, will be posted here.

Last night we make sexytime explosion at open mic. With prodigal Cowbird Ray Yurkewycz back in the nest, TCB descended on the unsuspecting Lamp's crowd and dropped an all-original load of quality right in their laps.

We're playing Lamplighter's on Saturday, December 16th. Watch this space for more details as they come into focus, but mark your calendars all the same.

TCB spent September without the services of Thunderballz on the drums, while Gary kicked it West Coast Style in California on bidness. Big thanks to Dan and Jerry who sat in on some practices during this time. But lest anyone forget, Roast can slap the skins like a nude goat in a tornado. So last night we brought the five-man version of TCB to open mic and served up a delicious sampling from our "Richard Manuel lineup" for the people.

El Paso (Gourds)
Goddamn Lonely Love (Drive-By Truckers)
Declinometer (Gourds)
Restless (written by Mike Perlberg)

Well folks, things got complicated, as things do. Our Goose Island show is not to be, at least not that weekend in November. First they needed to bump us to the night before, and then they suddenly got very unavailable when it came time to lock things in. We're still panning for an alternate venue that evening, so don't lose hope. In the meantime, we're developing new music and enjoying some opportunities to jam with some special guests.
8/24/06
We're working on a show for Saturday, November 11th. Location to be determined, but there are a couple of prospective venues we're working with and we'll settle on one of them soon.
In other news, we've added some additional photos from the 6/17 show to the Audiovisuals page... check them out, yo.

After a few weeks of retooling around a six-man lineup, The Cowbirds returned to open mic last night to drop some science on the people. We whipped out all-new material as E whipped out his new guitar. Other highlights of the evening included Ray calling in from Nevada during a brief window of cellular coverage. Lowlights of the evening included getting bumped to 11:10pm, but them's the breaks. We suspect it's time to find a new nest.

Box Full Of Letters (Wilco)

It's bittersweet... more sweet than bitter, bitter than sweet.
Some major news since the last update... Ray is going to be leaving us for awhile. On July 4th he rides the rails out to a job in Montana that runs through mid-autumn. Everyone knows that this is the right move for Ray, but that doesn't make it any easier to face. So we did the only thing we could do... put together a mammoth farewell bash/jam for this coming Saturday and went out last night to rock the open mic house in typical TCB fashion.

Many thanks to everyone who joined us for the CD release show. We had a blast and hope you did too. Did you have a camera at the show? Send us your photos and we'll slap your name onto the website and be your bestest friend forever. Photos and A/V material will be added to the Audiovisuals page as they roll in.
Muchos Macho Gracias to Gary Shust and Jerry Waggoner for lending their talents and time and helping us turn that mutha out. Special thanks go out as well to Chad Bauer and John Lisiecki for their production work on the CD.
Onwards and upwards, y'all... that's the TCB way. Watch this space for more in the coming weeks.
06/02/06
Still more material from the CD on the Audiovisuals page! This one's an original written by Mike Perlberg and The Roast, and it's called Island City. Turn your speakers up.
06/01/06
See y'all at the show!

Last night was pretty exciting... Roast returned from Europe, Gary brought the thunder on the drum kit, and The Cowbirds won week 2 of the Red Bull contest being conducted at Lamplighter's open mic. Our main goal was to promote the CD release party that's now just a month away, but we certainly wouldn't kick Red Bull out of bed for eating crackers. Uh... yeah.
When they are posted, we'll crosslink to the evening's photos *here*

Ophelia (The Band)
Island City (written by Mike Perlberg & The Roast)
My Morning Song (Black Crowes)

The band is currently rehearsing for a 6/17 show at Lamplighter's, and will make sporadic open mic appearances around town between now and then. We're also working to line up more shows throughout the summer and fall. Do you know a band that needs an opening (or closing) act? Do you have a favorite watering hole where TCB can stage a command performance? Let us know, yo. Email link below: fast and easy.

Welcome to the TCB news page... one of several tweaks to the website that we're rolling out this week.
We'll update this page each time there's something to report.
For this first posting, the first thing we should mention is a word of thanks to our bro Jerry Waggoner for filling in on drums last night at open mic.
Jer stepped up in Dan & Roast's absence and allowed us to bring the full TCB sound to the Lamp's stage for a third consecutive week, and we sure appreciate his talent and time.
5/3/06 open mic setlist:
Poor Richard (written by our own Matt Perlberg)
Tupelo Honey (Van Morrison)
Shape I'm In (The Band)
Photos of the outing will likely surface on the Lamp's website after a week or so, as they did after our previous appearances.
